Registrations open for Estonian Language Camp

Get ready for a weekend of songs, stories, sea breezes and Estonian words flying freely under the gum trees — the Estonian Language Camp for Children and Families is back!

From Friday to Sunday, 14–16 November 2025, we’ll gather once again at Anglesea YMCA Discovery Camp on Victoria’s beautiful Great Ocean Road for three days of culture, connection and carefree seaside joy.

Learning, the Estonian way

Forget classrooms — this is camp! The best way to learn about your culture and language is by living it: singing songs around the bonfire, weaving crafty treasures, strolling the sandy beaches, and taking part in the kind of “Olympic Games” where kids usually outrun their parents (again) and referees hover with red cards at the ready.

Add good food, new friendships, and plenty of Estonian words slipping into conversations — sometimes on purpose, sometimes by accident — and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a weekend that sticks (a bit like the marshmallows).

Who can join?

Everyone’s welcome — whether you’re fluent in Estonian, know just a few words, or simply enjoy the sound of vowels you can’t quite pronounce. The point is to have fun together and give kids the chance to hear and use Estonian in the wild (gum trees count as the wild, right?).

👧 Kids (16 & under) join for free — no excuses, bring the whole gang.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Adults can grab single tickets or family passes (concessions available).

👀 Just curious? Pop down on Saturday to see what all the fuss is about.

Back by popular demand

Last year’s inaugural camp set the bar high. Everyone left sandy, tired, and marshmallow-sticky, declaring in unison: so much fun!

Highlights included obstacle-course “Olympics” (where the kids utterly obliterated the parents), beach adventures with bonus seashell collections, crafts in Estonian colours, and bonfires that turned chilly nights into warm memories.

Children proudly marched away with printed medals and camp T-shirts, parents limped away with sore legs and full hearts — and everyone agreed: best idea ever.

A weekend to remember

The Melbourne Estonian Society can’t wait to welcome families back for another round of songs, laughter, campfire glow and Estonian words echoing through the bush.

So polish your marshmallow stick, practise your Macarena, and pack an extra pair of socks — we’ll see you by the campfire in November!

Thank you!

This camp is supported by the Estonian Cultural Foundation in Australia, the Institute of the Estonian Language (Eesti Keele Instituut), the Estonian Integration Foundation (Eesti Integratsiooni Sihtasutus), and the Melbourne Estonian Society.
